What’s Next for Israel? pt. 1

Before God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, He told Abraham about it, so he could pray for Lot and the other residents of those cities. He said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do, since Abraham will surely become a great and mighty nation, and in him all the nations of the earth will be blessed?” (Gen. 18:17-18) In the same way, Jesus tells us how the world will end, so we can pray for the salvation of others. Those details are found in the prophecies of Israel’s future for as the nation of Israel goes, so goes the world. In this post and the next, I will outline 6 events in Israel’s future that call for our prayers.

The first event will be a peace agreement in the Middle East. Daniel 9:27 says  a world leader will emerge and “make a covenant” with the people of Israel for one week. (The word “week” refers to a period of 7 years.) This is what Israel and the world have been longing for. This is also how the orthodox rabbis in Israel say they will recognize the Messiah. He will bring peace and lead them in rebuilding Jerusalem’s Temple. In fact, they’ve already prepared the priestly robes, the holy vessels, and the sacrificial animals in preparation for his coming. But it won’t be a genuine peace he brings, nor will he be the true Messiah. He will be a counterfeit Savior known as the Antichrist. As Jesus warned in John 5:43, “I came in my Father’s name, and you did not receive me, but another will come in his own name and him you will receive.” More on this in a moment.

The second event will be the invasion of Israel. By whom? The late Moshe Dayan, commander of Israel’s Defense Forces, warned 40 years ago that their next great war would be against Russia. Ezekiel 38 confirms this saying the invasion will be led by Gog, ruler of Magog (ancient names for Russia). Her allies will be Persia (Iran), Put (Libya), Cush (Ethiopia, Sudan), Egypt, Syria, and the other Arab nations bent on Israel’s destruction. But they will not succeed. Their armies will be obliterated (Ezek. 39:6), not by Israel’s false messiah, though he may take credit for the victory, but as a supernatural judgment of God. When will this happen? The Bible isn’t clear. My guess is shortly after the false messiah signs a covenant with Israel, for Ezekiel says Israel will be living in peace when it occurs. He says Israel will also take 7 years to burn the weapons left behind by Russia, which is how long the tribulation will last. Russia’s demise will clear the way for the false messiah to consolidate his power as the world’s final dictator.

The third event will be the betrayal of Israel by their false messiah. Daniel 9:27 says the ruler who makes a covenant with Israel for one “week” will break it midway through the 7 years and become their greatest persecutor. He will set up an “abomination of desolation,” referring to an idol of himself that he will erect in God’s Temple. Antiochus Epiphanes (“God manifest”), the enemy of Israel during the time of the Maccabees, committed a similar sacrilege. He set up a statue of Zeus in the Temple and sacrificed a pig to him. Antichrist will take it to a new extreme taking his seat in God’s Temple and demanding that the whole world worship him (2 Thess. 2:4). When the Jews refuse, he will attempt to wipe them from the face of the earth. Why? Revelation 12:12 suggests that he will do it for the same reason Judas betrayed Jesus. Expelled from heaven and confined to earth by Michael and his holy angels, Satan will be filled with wrath knowing his time is short, at which point he will enter Antichrist’s heart inspiring him to destroy anyone who will not bow before him but worships Jesus instead.

Next time we’ll witness the saving power of Jesus who will, like the cavalry, come riding in on a great white charger to rescue His people from destruction and set up His Kingdom on earth. But don’t leave this page until you watch the following video of God’s deliverance of Israel from Russia’s invasion –

Totally fascinating! I love how clearly you are explaining these unfolding prophecies. I am sending them to my children. Keep on teaching brother! May God protect you as you expose the truth of what is to come as prophecied in God’s Word. I look forward to the next lesson. I plan to pass these lessons on to others.

    • Thanks, Brother Bruce! You’re always such a great encourager. I hope my love for the people of Israel comes across in these studies because I long for the day when they will say, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” What a celebration it will be when we all – Jew and Gentile alike – worship at the throne of King Yeshua in Jerusalem!
